FORWARD BY ARTIST KATE HOLSTEIN
Andalusia is a region in Southern Spain that was under Moorish rule from the 8th - 15th centuries. It was the Moorish influence that left the countryside dotted with picturesque white towns, which today have become popular tourist destinations. This image was shot just before dusk in the town of Vejer de la Frontera. As the church bells struck seven o'clock, birds who were perched in the many nooks and crannies of these historic white buildings took flight. I love the juxtaposition of the ancient white architecture, milky white sky, terra cotta roofs and the birds. For me, it was these four elements that defined Andalusia.
Shot on Nikon D800 with Zeiss 100mm lens, October 2014.
